Ella Bonanni is a professional fashion stylist and make-up artist. I did some questions to Ella about her job and passion…Here are the answers! Have a good reading!
Hi Ella and welcome to ‘Makeup Gallery’ family! You are a professional fashion stylist and makeup artist , fashion and style are your job…In your opinion how important are beauty and style in everyone’s life?
Hi and thanks for having me, I’m honored!
I believe most people want to look their best! You can tell a lot about a person by the way they dress and groom themselves. A well groomed and styled person gives out confidence and strong self esteem, the opposite is true with a person who gives up on their personal appearance. Society in general does “judge a book by its cover!”, that’s why we dress up when we want to make a good first impression!
What is style for you?
Style for me is expressing who you are on the inside with clothes, accessories and make-up. I love being an original and wearing my outfit with confidence! Stylish people make their own trends!
It is clear that you are passionate about your job… What are the best and the worst things about your job?
Gee, I do love it!!! I love being at the photo shoots and watching my “creations” come to life, whether it’s with clothes or make-up, and same goes for the fashion shows, the energy is intoxicating! But just like any other job, sometimes you have to put up with gossip, jealousy, arrogance and unprofessionalism, that part is ugly!

What are your future plans?
Oh boy, my plans are HUGE and I think I need 2 lifetimes to achieve them all… Haha, but seriously, I would love to work for a Hollywood Film Studio in the long run; short term I will like to brand my own make-up line and teach a “stylist” course (which is already in the making).
Who are your style icons?
The master stylist/designer Christian Dior…I just want to bow everytime I say his name, and his successor John Galliano!
As for stylish people, I admire different ones for different reasons: Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy for their effortless style, Kate Moss and Johnny Depp as trend setters, Natalie Portman for her casual chic, and many many more, people inspire me!

What are your favourite pieces in your wardrobe today?
My jeans, I have a couple of pairs that fit my body shape and I love making them chic with a dress up shoe and a crisp white shirt. I am an accessory-aholic, my shoes and purses are my pets…haha, and I love my jewelry, I believe you can make a potato sac look stylish with the right accessories!
And what should never miss in everyone’s wardrobe?
You don’t need a lot of clothes, just some fitted pieces like the right pair of dressy pants, a dressy skirt, a crisp white shirt, a cardigan, jeans, a simple dress and fitted T-shirts. These are the basics, if they mix and match it’s better (neutral colors work best for that), and then accessorize!!!! Belts, shoes, purses, scarves (in every color and size).
Finally…Three tips for being always fashionable!
- Your tailor should be your Best Friend! You need to tailor most store bought clothes, it’s an investment but you will never have the wrong fit!
- Dress with what looks good on your body, not what the celebrity of the moment is wearing. Like the great Coco Chanel said: “Fashion fades, style is eternal!”. Trends are not always the best choice!
- A simple outfit with the right accessories can turn heads, keep the colors in the outfit neutral (if you are scared of color coordination) and apply color with accessories, you can’t mess it up that way!
